Emily Brontë's bicentenary

"In Emily's nature the extremes of vigour and simplicity seemed to meet. Under an unsophisticated culture, inartificial tastes, and an unpretending outside, lay a secret power and fire that might have informed
the brain and kindled the veins of a hero".
Charlotte Brontë, Biographical Notice of Ellis and Acton Bell, 1850

July 2018 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Emily Jane Brontë. A great year to celebrate one of the most fascinated and enigmatic writer of all times!
Emily was the fifth of the six Brontë children. She was born on 30 July 1818 in the village of Thornton, West Yorkshire, in Northern England, to Maria Branwell and an Irish father, Patrick Brontë. Her masterpiece Wuthering Heights was published in 1847 under the pseudonym Ellis Bell.

In memory of Emily read the beautiful 'High waving heather, 'neath stormy blasts bending' an Emily's early poems, written in 1836 (when she was only 18).  The description of nature as something beautiful wild and powerful with a man who metaphorically flees from any form of imprisonment (how is current Emily today!).

Above you can see a beautiful painting by Anna Gorbatenko  an artist, watercolorist and fashion designer. From early age she exposed on international culture and fascinated by art, design and sewing. Anna works in Italy where she lives with her husband and three children.
Her sources of Inspiration are Ballet, Art, Photography, Vintage Fashion and Beautiful Destinations.
This watercolor is ispired by Emily's poems and her beloved moors.

High Waving Heather,
'Neath Stormy Blasts Bending
by Emily Brontë

High waving heather, 'neath stormy blasts bending,
Midnight and moonlight and bright shining stars;
Darkness and glory rejoicingly blending,
Earth rising to heaven and heaven descending,
Man's spirit away from its drear dongeon sending,
Bursting the fetters and breaking the bars.

All down the mountain sides, wild forest lending
One mighty voice to the life-giving wind;
Rivers their banks in the jubilee rending,
Fast through the valleys a reckless course wending,
Wider and deeper their waters extending,
Leaving a desolate desert behind.

Shining and lowering and swelling and dying,
Changing for ever from midnight to noon;
Roaring like thunder, like soft music sighing,
Shadows on shadows advancing and flying,
Lightning-bright flashes the deep gloom defying,
Coming as swiftly and fading as soon.

Alta erica ondeggiante,
curva sotto il vento tempestoso
di Emily Brontë

Alta erica ondeggiante, curva sotto il cielo tempestoso
Mezzanotte, chiaro di luna e stelle lucenti;
Tenebre e splendore in accordo gioioso,

una possente voce al vento che dà vita ;

 Illuminando e calando, crescendo e morendo,
Perennemente mutando dalla notte al giorno;
Ruggendo come tuono, come dolce musica sospirando,
Ombre su ombre avanzano volando,
Lampi abbaglianti sfidano le tenebre,
Velocemente apparendo e subito svanendo.
