Claude Monet was a founder of French impressionist painting, and the most consistent and prolific practitioner of the movement's philosophy of expressing one's perceptions before nature, especially as applied to 'plein-air' landscape painting. The term Impressionism is derived from the title of his painting Impression, Sunrise (Impression, soleil levant).
Claude Monet è stato uno dei fondatori della pittura impressionista francese, e il professionista più coerente e prolifico della filosofia di tale movimento. L'Impressionismo esprimeva l'arte nella sua percezioni di fronte alla natura, in particolare applicata alla pittura di paesaggio 'en plein air'. Il termine impressionismo deriva dal titolo della sua pittura Impression, Sunrise (Impression, soleil levant).

In this painting, Monet was less interested in capturing a likeness than in studying how unblended dabs of color could suggest the effect of brilliant sunlight filtered through leaves.

Déjeuner sur l'herbe
In 1865-66 Monet was 25 years. He made this great composition (cloth measuring 4.60 meters high for 6 in length) considered at same time tribute to his teacher and challenge Manet (The dejeuner sur l'herbe by Manet was a scandal because he painted a naked woman while eating with men).

Nel 1865-66 Monet a 25 anni realizza questa grande composizione (la tela misurava 4.60 mt d'altezza per 6 di lunghezza) ritenuta allo stesso tempo omaggio e sfida al suo maestro Manet (La dejeuner sur l'herbe di Manet aveva fatto scandalo poiché il pittore aveva raffigurato una donna nuda mentre mangia con degli uomini).
Femmes au jardin
Hymn to the sun and to life this masterpiece was rejected by the jury of the Salon of 1867. The painting takes some themes already used in Déjeuner sur l'herbe. It is thought that the central character is Camilla, his future wife, that as in the previous masterpiece, posing with awhite dress.

Inno al sole e alla vita quest'opera fu rifiutata dalla giuria del Salone del 1867. Il dipinto riprende alcuni temi già utilizzati in Déjeuner sur l'herbe. Si pensa che il personaggio centrale sia Camilla, la sua futura sposa, che come nel precedente capolavoro, posa con l'abito bianco.
