A beautiful illustrated book!

This week from my collection of illustrated books I picked up this little 'masterpiece' that I received as a gift some years ago from Holland..
The title is "Mijn eerste getallen : een glinsterend begin van het leren"  (translated in English may be: "My first numbers: a sparkling early learning") as well as it contains numbers with a path with sensory touch. 
This beautiful book with special nostalgic illustrations and glittering surprises on every page make the first acquaintance with numbers more attractive! The book has a fairytale atmosphere.
The year of publication dates back to 2008 and is rated for children of 2-5 years old. 
Honestly it's so beautiful that I think it could be for age 0-99!What do you think?? :)

Questa settimana dalla mia libreria di libri illustrati ho preso questo piccolo libro illustrato che tempo fa ho ricevuto come dono dall'Olanda.

Il titolo "Mijn eerste getallen : een glinsterend begin van het leren" (tradotto in italiano penso sia: "I miei primi numeri: un apprendimento precoce scintillante". Oltre ai disegni dei numeri e le immagini fiabesche, contiene un percorso tatto sensoriale estremamente scintillante!. L'anno di pubblicazione risale al 2008 ed è classificato per un età compressa tra i 2 e i 5 anni. Onestamente è così bello che io lo definirei per 0-99!!! Che ne dite???:)

A British Painter: William Henry Margetson (1861-1940)

"I saw this paintings ... I 'fell' in love ...and as I'm a very curious person I have tried to have more information about the author an his life. Unfortunately, I found very little but enough to know who he  is ..."

William Henry Margetson (1860-1940), is a painter noted for his pictures of very beautiful girls, typically alone and large on the canvas, and typically with short hair and hats when they are modern subjects. He studied at the South Kensington Schools, and then at the Royal Academy, exhibiting there from 1885. He lived at Wallingford on Thames. As well as modern girls and portraits, Margetson also produced a few religious pictures, and some allegorical and classical/ancient ones–for example a Cleopatra, fetchingly attired, with attendants in an Alma-Tadema setting (1890). Allegorical classical subjects also include The Sea Hath its Pearls, (a girl in diaphanous drapes) in the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Australia, and the much reproduced Who Strays in Love's Domain showing three such girls and an ugly Cupid on the beach, 1904. His wife, Hellen Hatton, was also an artist.

A quiet sunday

William Henry Margetson ( Londra , 1860 - Wallingford , 2 gennaio 1940 ) è stato un inglese pittore e illustratore. Fu allievo della South Kensington Schools e alla Royal Academy ove nel 1885 espone per la prima volta le sue opere  Nel 1909 divenne membro del Royal Institute . E' famoso per i suoi dipinti in olio e acquerello e come ritrattista di belle donne, spesso con moderni tagli di capelli corti e cappelli di stile. 

La sua arte subì l'infiuenza del post-impressionismo e dei Preraffaeliti; egli realizzò anche opere a sfondo religioso e allegorico.

Il suo lavoro di maggior successo è The Sea Hath its Pearls, che espose nel 1897 alla Royal Academy, ora in possesso della Galleria d'Arte di New South Wales, in Australia .

Un ritratto di Alfred Tennyson dipinto da Margetson si trova nella National Portrait Gallery di Londra.

Margetson fu illustratore di libri. Sposò Helen Hatton un artista incontrata durante un incarico di lavoro. Margetson morì nel 1940, all'età di 79 anni.

Charlotte Brontë

On April 23 1816, in Thornton, a small English village, was born a girl destined to become one of the dominant figures of literature of all time: Charlotte Brontë, the third of six children of the Reverend Patrick Brontë and his wife Maria Branwell.
Charlotte was the older of three Brontë sisters, which novels become masterpieces of English literature.

Il 21 aprile del 1816 a Thornton, un piccolo villaggio inglese, nasceva una bambina destinata a diventare una delle figure predominanti della letteratura di tutti i tempi: Charlotte Brontë, terza di sei figli del reverendo Patrick Brontë e di sua moglie Maria Branwell.

Charlotte fu la sorella maggiore di età tra le tre sorelle Brontë, i cui romanzi  sono diventati dei capolavori della letteratura inglese.

With a pseudonym the three sisters published their masterpieces: Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell were in fact the authors of the undisputed masterpieces of Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and Agnes Grey.

Sotto falso nome le tre sorelle pubblicarono i loro capolavori: Currer, Ellis e Acton Bell erano in realtà le autrici degli indiscussi capolavori di Jane Eyre, Cime Tempestose e Agnes Grey.

These three women had an extraordinary history of pain, deprivation, denial, poverty, loneliness, death, but also hopes, passions, dreams and courage.
Charlotte, the only one who survived all her brothers and sisters, was the 'daughter' of her time. She lived in an age of prejudices: with Jane Eyre she defied the world, but did not allow the world to disrupt her isolated life  in the quiet village of Haworth.

Queste tre donne ebbero una storia straordinaria fatta di dolori, privazioni, rinunce, povertà, solitudine, morte ma anche speranze, passioni, sogni e coraggio.

Charlotte l'unica che sopravvisse a tutti i suoi fratelli e sorelle, fu figlia del suo tempo. Visse in un'epoca di pregiudizi e con Jane Eyre sfidò il mondo senza che questo potesse minimamente stravolgere la sua vita isolata nel tranquillo villaggio di Haworth. 

Today is the anniversary of her birth (21 April 1816) and this morning I just finished reading this story about her life.

Oggi ricorre l'anniversario della sua nascita (21 aprile 1816) e proprio stamane ho terminato di leggere questo racconto sulla sua vita.

As I read the pages of this novel Charlotte 'entered' more and more in my heart. Romancig Miss Bronte is a novel that can be read without breath, full of feeling and sensitivity.It is a sad and nostalgic story full of love and passion.
Thank you Charlotte! In your characters, and especially in Jane Eyre, we find the strength of your soul that it will remain in our hearts forever!:)

Man mano che le pagine di questo romanzo scorrevano, Charlotte 'entrava'  sempre più nel mio cuore. Romancig Miss Bronte è un romanzo che si legge senza respiro, pieno di sentimento e di sensibilità. E' una storia triste e nostalgica piena di amore desiderato e inespresso. 
Grazie Charlotte! Nei tuoi personaggi e sopratutto in Jane Eyre,  ritroviamo la forza del tuo animo che rimarrà nei nostri cuori per sempre!:)

L'UNESCO nel 1995 ha proclamato il 23 aprile di ogni anno “Giornata mondiale del libro e del diritto d'autore” con l'obiettivo di incoraggiare a scoprire il piacere della lettura e a valorizzare il contributo che gli autori danno al progresso sociale e culturale dell'umanità.

La celebrazione avviene in ricordo dell’anniversario della scomparsa di tre importanti scrittori venuti a mancare in questo stesso giorno nel 1616: Shakespeare, Cervantes e Garcilaso de la Vega.


Since 1995 the Unesco Member States celebrate on April 23 the "World Book and Copyright Day" with the aim of encouraging  to discover the joy of reading and to emphasize the contribution that the authors give to the social and cultural progress humanity.
The celebration takes place on the anniversary day of the disappearance of three major writers died on this day in 1616: Shakespeare, Cervantes and Garcilaso de la Vega.

La giornata invita a riflettere sui cambiamenti culturali in corso: l'avvento dell'era digitale offre nuove opportunità di conoscenza ma il libro tradizionale resiste alla 'prova del tempo'. La 'bibliodiversità' mondiale è una ricchezza comune poichè tutte le forme di libri offrono un contributo prezioso per l'educazione e la diffusione della cultura e dell'informazione. 

Tutti dobbiamo contribuire a diffondere la cultura della parola scritta per consentire a tutti gli individui, uomini, donne e bambini di accedervi.

The day invites us to reflect on the cultural changes: the advent of the digital age offers new opportunities for knowledge, but the traditional book still powerful technology. The 'bibliodiversity' is a common wealth as all forms of books offer a valuable contribution to the education and dissemination of culture and information.

We must partecipate to spread the culture of the written word to allow all individuals, men, women and children to access it.

Ogni anno viene nominata una 'Capitale mondiale del libro': quest'anno il riconoscimento è stato dato alla città di Bangkok per il suo speciale programma di sensibilizzazione alla cultura rivolto ai più giovani e delle fasce più vulnerabili della popolazione.

This year the award of "World Book Capital" was given to the city of Bangkok for its special program to promote reading among young people and underprivileged sections of the population.

"Orgoglio e Pregiudizio" è al primo posto della classifica dei libri preferiti dagli insegnati secondo un sondaggio  on line somministrato a 500 soggetti dal "Times Educational Supplement".

News from Brontes country

In una soffitta della Cappella della Barden Tower nei pressi del villaggio inglese di Skipton  (North Yorkshire) sono stati ritrovati migliaia di disegni della collezione “Vintage Views of the Yorkshire Dales, Bronte Country and Lake District” realizzati opera di PB Rennison un famoso artista del luogo.

Tra i tanti disegni, c’è un ritratto della famiglia Bronte e dei luoghi in cui hanno vissuto le leggendarie sorelle (Skipton è a soli 13 miglia da Haworth, la loro casa).

I disegni sono stati donati alla Bethany Hare Smile Foundation, una fondazione a favore di bambini malati che venderà i disegni con l’intento di raccoglie fondi.

Bellissimi i disegni e bellissima l'iniziativa di donarli alla fondazioneper bambini!!

In a chapel cellar of Barden Tower near the English village of Skipton (North Yorkshire) were discovered thousands of drawings in the collection "Vintage Views of the Yorkshire Dales, Bronte Country and Lake District" made by a famous artist of the PB Rennison place. 

Among them, there is a portrait of the Bronte family and the places where the sister lived (Skipton is located a few miles from Haworth)

The drawings were donated to the Bethany Hare Smile Foundation, a foundation for sick children who sell the designs with the intention of raising funds.

Designs are beautiful and very very praiseworthy is the initiative to donate them to the Foundation for children!

Listening Jane...!

Audiobooks – Austen 

I use an application that allows me to listen in audiobook Jane Austen's novel and I find it very exciting! So I decided to write this post to share with you this experience.:)

Audiobooks – Austen is a Jane Austen anthology. We can get Emma, Pride and Prejudice and Northanger Abbey, and also lesser known stories like Lady Susan, The History of England as well as a biography of Jane Austen by her nephew. 
It costs less than 1 euro and it is simple and intuitive with a filter by author, title, duration and keywords!

E' da un po' di tempo che utilizzo un' applicazione che mi permette di ascoltare sul telefonino e sul tablet i romanzi di Jane Austen e ho pensato pubblicizzarla poiché la trovo davvero interessante.!

Si possono ascoltare in lingua inglese le sue opere più famose e non solo! Tra  le opere ci sono i "Memoires" scritto dal nipote.
Collegandovi al sito potete vedere la compatibilità del sistema per i vostri dispositivi. 
Il costo è davvero incredibile poichè è inferiore ad 1 euro ed è molto facile utilizzare questa applicazione che ha  anche un sistema di ricerca del testo per autore, titolo e durata! 
Sul AudioBookPop sito trovate una versione di Audiobook for kids gratis dedicata ai piccoli!

Today I received a wonderful surprise!!:) The blog of the Jane Austen Sociedade do Brasil (Jasbra) wrote a post dedicated to cameos that I created inspired by Jane Austen. It has been a great great honor for me to receive kind words of appreciation and I'm really happy that my project can please anyone!:)
